Health Initiatives

Executive Summary

Staff of DePauw University, Hendricks Regional Health and Putnam County Hospital will implement wellness initiatives focused on encouraging healthy behaviors that will positively impact the learning process, as well as promote overall well being. In addition, innovation and outside-of-the-box thinking will foster ways to help employees and students achieve their healthiest selves.

Project leadership will work hand-in-hand to create and integrate programs around areas highlighted by the American College Health Association, including:

  • General Health and Overall Well-Being
  • Disease and Injury Prevention
  • Health and its Academic Impacts
  • Violence, Abusive Relationships and Personal Safety
  • Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug Use
  • Nutrition
  • Exercise
  • Mental Health
  • Sleep

Wellness Support for Music Students

Clinical and wellness staff will work hand-in-hand with music school faculty to promote a culture of wellness that supports the development of long and rich musical careers. The program will emphasize providing music students with education and resources for nutrition, physical activity, stress reduction, healthy sleep habits and incorporating good decision-making for positive behaviors.  In addition, support will be provided to teach relaxation techniques and improved posture and physical coordination.

Student Involvement

The project steering committee will involve student groups to gain input and insights into their health and wellness needs and priorities. The student audience will have a voice in wellness programming and initiative planning throughout the project.
